Specs and Features of This Soon-to-Be-Released VW Electric Car
When the ID.4 originally debuted, it marked the first Volkswagen electric SUV in the United States. To say it was a success is a massive understatement. In addition to winning the 2021 World Car of the Year Award, the VW ID.4 also landed on several editors’ choice lists and was named one of Wards 10 Best User Experiences.
Since the successful rollout of the VW ID.4, naturally, drivers and reviewers alike wondered how long it would be before a VW electric car was added to the mix. Finally, there is some good news on that front. Originally based on the VW ID. AERO concept, the VW ID.7 sedan is slated for release in 2025 with preorders projected to kick off in Q4 2024.
Granted, drivers will need to wait before they can get behind the wheel of the first VW electric car from the German automaker; however, based on what we know so far, the wait will be well worth it.
A New Volkswagen EV Sedan That’s Ready to Compete
There’s a showdown brewing in the electric vehicle world that’s on par with the Jazz vs. Bulls rivalry of the late-90s. Headlines are already being written about how the new Volkswagen ID.7 aims to dethrone the Tesla Model 3. Indeed, automakers are bound to compete, but the VW brand has always been more concerned with winning over the hearts and minds of drivers. When you can successfully do that, the accolades usually aren’t far behind.
So, what exactly will this new VW electric car bring to the table? Can the new Volkswagen ID.7 take some of the valuable EV market share that established competitors currently possess?
Similar to how the Volkswagen electric SUV wowed drivers and reviewers with its impressive performance, its attractive price point, and its future-forward design and feature package, the VW ID.7 will follow much of the same winning formula.
First, let’s address the electric elephant in the room – the battery. The Pro model of the 2023 VW ID.4 can drive up to 275 miles on a single charge; the VW ID.7 will improve upon that. Outfitted with an 86kWh battery pack, the new Volkswagen electric sedan will have a single charge driving distance of up to 345 miles.
On a related note, new purchases of the Volkswagen electric SUV come with three free years of unlimited 30-minute DC fast charging sessions at Electrify America stations. Currently, there’s no reason to believe the new VW electric car won’t come with this same incentive.
Drivers should also expect a significant amount of power out of this new Volkswagen electric sedan. According to preliminary reporting, the VW ID.7 will deliver 402 lb-ft of torque and 282 horsepower. That puts it in the upper echelons as one of the most powerful sedans in the German automaker’s stable.
The New Volkswagen ID.7 Will Pack Some Heavy-Hitting Features
Although the VW ID.7 isn’t quite Doc Brown’s DeLorean time machine, it will come with its fair share of futuristic bells and whistles that elevate sci-fi to reality. Perhaps the biggest feature we’re excited for is the augmented reality (AR) head-up display. The system superimposes digital readouts, images, and text onto the front windshield’s interior, providing drivers with navigation directions, speedometer readings, and other useful info. It’s not exactly like the one shown in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, but it’s pretty darn close.
New comfort and aesthetic features are also being added into the mix with the VW ID.7. Drivers can look forward to seats with a built-in massage function, panoramic sunroof with smart glass, and a next-generation infotainment system.
Of course, drivers should continue to expect the main staples of the VW feature package to remain consistent. The ID.7 will come with the IQ.DRIVE suite of intelligent driver assistance features, myVW app’s remote features, and a top-of-the-line infotainment package.
