Offered in a 6-speed manual, the speedy little whip puts out 315 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, which makes it one of the fastest things on four wheels. It also features torque vectoring 4MOTION® all-wheel drive, which makes it super nimble, especially when handling tight turns. It’s the speedy whip that redefines what it means to be a speedy whip.

What to Expect Out of the VW Golf R 20th Anniversary Edition

Hein Schafer, senior VP of product marketing and strategy remarked about the upcoming VW Golf R, “Twenty years is a significant milestone for the R performance brand of models, and we’re excited to share in a global celebration of two decades of R32 and Golf R heritage. Being the first official worldwide special model for the Golf R, it was important to include our North American Volkswagen performance hatch enthusiasts in this birthday party for the Golf R brand.”

Buyers of the 20th anniversary edition of the VW Golf R are in for a special treat. The new edition will include signature blue “R” badging on the exterior, key fob, and steering wheel to differentiate itself from the standard Golf R. It will also feature a deleted sunroof (to reduce trim weight), genuine carbon fiber interior décor, and glossy black 19-inch wheels.

The performance specs of the special edition Golf R will be consistent with the standard Golf R. It will be offered in both a 7-speed DSG® dual-clutch automatic transmission and a 6-speed manual version. Additionally, it will utilize an advanced MQB chassis (a VW exclusive) and turbocharged 315-horsepower EA888 evo4 TSI® engine. The 20th anniversary edition will be offered in three colors: Deep Black Pearl, Lapiz Blue Metallic, and Pure White.

Although the pricing isn’t completely locked in yet, drivers can expect to pay somewhere around $45,000 for this special edition of the VW Golf R. It should be available to purchase sometime in Q2 of 2023. However, there’s one big challenge about getting one – the 20th anniversary edition will be limited to 1,800 units, which means it might be hard to find.
