2018 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack

The 2018 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack is based somewhat on the Volkswagen Golf model, but with unique features of its own. As its name suggests, this car performs well on and off the road. Reviewers have called it “athletic,” despite its somewhat large build. With agile handling, and manual or automatic gear options, the Golf Alltrack fits almost any driver’s needs. The Alltrack now comes standard with all-wheel drive, making it easy to drive on tough terrain.

Like most new models, the 2018 Alltrack has undergone minor redesigning for a sleeker and more modern look. If you invest in a 2018 model, you’ll find brand-new LED headlights, a new front-end design, and improved trim levels. Additionally, Volkswagen Golf Alltrack manufacturers have improved the car’s technology. The 2018 model boasts a new eight-inch touchscreen (up from 6.5 inches) with easily accessible buttons for your smartphone or other devices. The Alltrack no longer uses any physical buttons; everything is on the touchscreen.

Additionally, the safety in the 2018 Alltrack has improved. Automatic safety measures, once optional, will become standard this year. Its extra hatchback space and new third row, common to many new Volkswagen models, ensure your cargo and loved ones can get to their locations comfortably and securely.

Finally, we at Volkswagen Southtowne love the way this new model looks. It’s been called “slightly rugged,” which may attract customers who want a sleek, yet tough car. The cocoa brown leather interior on some models is absolutely gorgeous, and we highly recommend it.

2018 Subaru Outback

The 2018 Subaru Outback has performed well on muddy and curving roads. Like the Alltrack, it now comes standard with all-wheel drive. According to car reviewers though, this is where the similarities end. For one thing, the Outback is noticeably bulkier than the Alltrack and can be noisier. It has been called a “grizzly bear,” which is great if you like a little grunt and verve in your engine, but not so much if you prefer a peaceful ride during your commute.

The Outback is a notably top-heavy car, which impacts its handling on any road. This, plus its high torque capacity, makes it about a twentieth of a second slower than competing models. Drivers may find this model lags a bit in heavy traffic and definitely struggles during heavy rain, snow, or other severe weather conditions.

We would be remiss if we did not mention the Subaru Outback’s technological features. It uses Subaru STARLINK™ infotainment and a Harman Kardon® stereo system. The Outback also includes several features to keep drivers safe, such as EyeSight® alarms. Be aware, though, that several car testers and reviewers found these intrusive. Their sound can actually distract you, making the road more dangerous for you and other drivers. Also, the alarms may go off when unneeded.

The Outback’s ride height makes for beautiful travel views, but actually driving it for long periods might be a challenge. The Outback’s suspension is good for body motion, so your car will not be all over the road. The tradeoff is that it takes a while for this car to “wake up” after a day of heavy driving.
